Founded in 2019, the Next Gen Giving Circle's mission is to cultivate the next generation of philanthropists in the greater Washington D.C. region.

The Giving Circle is comprised of members contributing monthly donations that get pooled together for impactful grants to community causes. Members convene throughout the year to connect and engage with the local community.

The Giving Circle's funds are held at the Greater Washington Community Foundation, which supports and connects our region's dedicated donors with nonprofits working to improve our communities.

Membership is open to all.  It's an inclusive group of young professionals in the Washington, D.C. region. As a member of the Next Gen Giving Circle, you will:

  • Be part of something bigger than yourself.

  • Make a larger impact in the community than if you made an individual donation.

  • Meet peers who want to make a difference in our city.

  • Attend VIP events at fun spots across the city to socialize and learn more about philanthropy.

  • Select nonprofits to receive grants each giving cycle.

  • Gain a better understanding of how nonprofits address challenges in our region.

Members make annual donations to the Giving Circle paid in monthly installments of $20, $50, $100 or $250. Members are asked to donate an amount they feel will make an impact.

Members work together to award grants between $5,000 and $20,000 each year. Grant applications are solicited and vetted based on criteria set by members each year. Every member has an equal vote on grant selections, regardless of their contribution.

The Giving Circle also hosts social and educational events for members to get to know one another, the issues facing the region, needs of nonprofits, and the philanthropic landscape.

Members have the opportunity to join committees to take an active role in the Giving Circle's membership development, communications, event planning, and grantmaking.

What’s a giving circle?

A giving circle is a way for individuals to pool small donations and decide together where they are contributed. It’s a great a way to increase impact of individual giving.

If I'm not rich can I really be a philanthropist?

We think so! The Next Gen Giving Circle is built on the idea that everyone can and should participate in philanthropy. Our members make annual pledges that they pay in automated  monthly installments - just like Hulu! Everyone has equal say in grant selections, regardless of their donation amount.

How are grants made?

A committee of Giving Circle members volunteer to oversee our grants process. Members select grant priorities and  determine final awards.

How do I sign up?

Our membership process is open to all. If you want to join the circle, please enter your email in the field below. Membership for the following year will be open from October to December.

How do I make a donation?

Once we receive your application, we'll send you an email with further instructions, including registering for monthly donations.

Is my donation tax deductible?

The Greater Washington Community Foundation serves as our fiscal agent. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
